Microsoft Word add-in

Support for Decover for Word.

This is the support document for Decover for Word — the DecoverAI add-in for Microsoft Word. It covers what the add-in needs, how to install and sign in, how to fix the problems people actually hit, how your document content is handled, and how to reach a human on our team.

The app

Decover for Word

Decover for Word (listed as the DecoverAI add-in for Microsoft Word) is published by DecoverHQ, Inc. It opens as a task pane beside the document you are drafting in Word and connects it to the matter you already run in DecoverAI — the same documents, the same classifications, and the same access rules as the web app. Everything on this page is about the add-in itself. For a broader tour of what it does, see the Word add-in product page; for help with the DecoverAI platform generally, see our help center.

Your matter, inside the document

Available for Word on Windows, Mac, and the web. Sign in with your existing DecoverAI account — the add-in is included with your subscription and there is nothing separate to license.

Draft and revise with case context

Generate and rework passages grounded in the documents already loaded into your matter, rather than in a blank model with no knowledge of the record.

Cite and pull from case documents

Search the matter's document set from the task pane and insert the excerpt, with its source, straight into the draft you are working in.

Privilege log and redaction assist

Flag privileged or confidential passages as you write and build privilege log entries from the material in front of you.

Summarize and analyze the open document

Summarize the document on screen, extract the facts that matter, and place events on a chronology without leaving Word.

Before you start

What Decover for Word needs

The add-in loads from the Office Store — there is no MSI, no local installer, and no desktop agent. Four things have to be in place.

Installation

Installing the add-in

Installing takes about a minute and does not require administrator rights, unless your firm has restricted the Office Store.

  1. Open Word and go to Home → Add-ins. On older builds this sits under Insert → Get Add-ins.
  2. Choose More Add-ins, open the Store tab, and search for Decover.
  3. Click Add, then accept the license terms and privacy policy when Word prompts you.
  4. The Decover button appears on the Home tab of the ribbon. Click it to open the task pane.
  5. Sign in with your DecoverAI credentials and pick the matter you want to work in. Word remembers the add-in on every device where you are signed in with the same Microsoft 365 account.

Deploying it across a firm

Where IT controls software, a Microsoft 365 administrator can push Decover for Word to everyone at once instead of asking each person to install it.

  1. In the Microsoft 365 admin center, go to Settings → Integrated apps and choose Get apps.
  2. Search for Decover, then select the users, groups, or the whole organization that should receive it.
  3. Confirm the permissions and deploy. Central deployments can take up to 24 hours to reach every user.
  4. Ask IT to allow outbound HTTPS to *.decover.ai on port 443 at the same time, so the pane can reach your matters on day one.

Administrators running a security or vendor review before deploying can pull SOC 2 Type II and HIPAA documentation from our Trust Center, and we are happy to join a call — write to support@decover.ai.

First use

Signing in and getting to work

The first run is where most questions come up, so here is what to expect from it.

  1. Open the pane. Click Decover on the Home tab. The task pane opens on the right of your document and stays there while you write.
  2. Sign in. The add-in opens a popup window to sign you in to your DecoverAI account. If your firm uses SSO, you will be handed to your identity provider exactly as the web app does. Popups and third-party cookies must be allowed for decover.ai.
  3. Pick a matter. Only matters your account already has access to appear in the list. Permissions carry over from the web app unchanged.
  4. Work from the record. Search the matter's documents, insert an excerpt with its source attached, summarize the document on screen, or flag a passage as privileged or confidential. Work you do in the pane stays attached to the matter rather than being stranded in the local file.

A fuller tour of each capability — and how the add-in fits alongside the web app — is on the Word add-in product page.

Troubleshooting

Common problems and fixes

Most add-in problems come down to Office's own cache, sign-in, or an organization policy. Work through these before writing in — and if none of them fix it, send us the details and we will take it from there.

The Decover button is not on my ribbon
Fully quit and reopen Word — on Windows, close every Office application, not just the document. Then check Home → Add-ins → More Add-ins → My Add-ins to confirm Decover for Word is listed; if it is, click it there to load it. If your administrator deployed the add-in centrally, allow up to 24 hours for it to appear.
The task pane opens blank or white
This is almost always a stale Office add-in cache. On Windows, close Word and delete the contents of %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Wef. On Mac, close Word and delete ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.Word/Data/Library/Caches/com.microsoft.Office365ServiceV2. Reopen Word and load the add-in again. In Word on the web, a hard refresh of the browser tab does the same job.
Sign-in fails or the login window keeps reappearing
The add-in signs you in through a popup window. Allow popups and third-party cookies for decover.ai in the browser or the Office WebView, then try again. If your firm uses SSO, confirm with IT that your DecoverAI account is provisioned through the same identity provider you are signed into Word with.
Word says add-ins are blocked by my organization
Your Microsoft 365 administrator has restricted the Office Store. Ask them to allow Decover for Word, or to deploy it centrally from Microsoft 365 admin center → Settings → Integrated apps. We are happy to join a call with your IT team — write to support@decover.ai.
The add-in loads but cannot reach my matters
This usually means network filtering. Ask IT to allow outbound HTTPS to *.decover.ai on port 443, including from the proxy that Office traffic passes through. If your matters load in the web app on the same machine but not in Word, tell us — that points at the Office WebView rather than the network.
I can sign in, but a matter I expect is missing
The add-in shows exactly the matters your DecoverAI account has access to, with no separate permission model of its own. If a matter is missing from the pane, check whether it is visible to you in the web app — if it is not, the fix is a permission change made by your matter administrator there, and it will appear in Word as soon as it is granted.
Something behaves differently in Word on the web
Word on the web and Word on the desktop expose slightly different document APIs, so a small number of actions are available in one and not the other. If you hit a difference that blocks you, send us the document type and what you were trying to do and we will tell you which surface to use.
How do I report a bug so it gets fixed quickly?
Email support@decover.ai with your Word version (File → Account → About Word), your operating system, the matter name, roughly when it happened, and a screenshot of the task pane. Please do not attach privileged documents — a screenshot with the sensitive text covered is enough for us to reproduce almost anything.
Data & privacy

How Decover for Word handles your information

The add-in is a second surface onto the DecoverAI platform, not a separate product with its own data store, and it is governed by the same controls: AES-256 encryption at rest, TLS 1.2+ in transit, role-based access, full audit logging, and matter-level permissions carried over from the web app. Nothing you write or open in Word is used to train, fine-tune, or improve AI models.

The complete terms are in the DecoverAI privacy policy — see section 3.9 for the add-in specifically — alongside our security page, data processing agreement, subprocessor list, and the Trust Center, where SOC 2 Type II and HIPAA documentation is available. To request access to or deletion of your personal information, write to privacy@decover.ai.

Uninstall

Removing the add-in

  1. In Word, go to Home → Add-ins → More Add-ins and open the My Add-ins tab.
  2. Click the menu on the Decover tile and choose Remove.
  3. Removing the add-in does not touch your DecoverAI account or any matter data. If it was deployed centrally, your Microsoft 365 administrator removes it from Settings → Integrated apps instead.
  4. To close your account entirely, write to support@decover.ai and we will confirm deletion in line with our privacy policy.
